Since its inception, GOLDSIGN has become one of the most exclusive designer denim brands, quickly earning a reputation within the most luxurious customers and specialty retail accounts around the globe such as The Line, Moda Operandi, A’maree’s, Rand and Statler, Poole Shop, Viola Lovely, Need Supply, Shopbop, Alex Eagle, and Le Bon Marche.




A British native, GOLDSIGN and AGOLDE’s Creative Director Karen Phelps, has joined the team based in Los Angeles in implement her extensive design expertise and creative vision to the premium denim brands. After graduation from University of Northumbria at Newcastle, with a B.A. Honors and winner of Womenswear Graduate of the Year, Phelps relocated to New York and began her successful career. From there, she has help roles with leading global brands such as Calvin Klein Inc., Levi Strauss & Co., Gap Inc. in addition to more niche brands such as Margaret Howell and J. Brand.

Phelps spent her formative years working as a design assistant with J. Crew which subsequently led to a design role at Calvin Klein Inc. where she developed skills as a denim designer working with Calvin Klein himself designing both men’s and women’s collections. Garnering a clean and minimalist design approach which is prevalent in Phelps work today, she then transitioned into a senior role at Levi’s Premium, and Design Director at Gap Inc., focusing on the entire women’s collections for Europe and Asia. After shifting gears and returning to Europe Phelps consulted with Margaret Howell and Calvin Klein, prior to retuning to the U.S, and held the role of Vice president of Women’s Design at denim label J. Brand in Los Angeles. Leading the design team and working on collaborations with Simone Rocha, Theory Japan and introducing “The Little Black Jean,” “Photoready,” and “Stocking Jean” into the market.

Citizens of Humanity took notice of Phelps’ body of work and offered her the opportunity to work in-house as Creative Director for both GOLDSIGN and AGOLDE. Phelps jumped at the opportunity to work with industry giant, Jerome Dahan, and push her creative abilities even further. Phelps was eager to work with denim brands that offered its own in-house laundry and manufacturing facilities. With an eye for what’s next in denim, Phelps looks forward to implementing her extensive design background to GOLDSIGN and AGOLDE collections.
